Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar yoga is derived from Hatha yoga. Like Hatha yoga it uses meditation to strengthen the body, mind, and spirit. The goal is to provide the practitioner with better physical and mental health.

Iyengar yoga relies heavily on props for postures. Common props used include:
• Yoga belts
• Yoga blocks
• Yoga straps

These props can be purchased in stores or online and often can be found in a yoga studio.

Iyengar yoga is very precise. Other classes allow students to experiment with postures and imitate the teacher. However, in this setting the Iyengar yoga instructor will come around and correct students in order to make sure alignment is correct.
