Yoga Meditation

When a yoga practitioner first enters the classroom he is encouraged to briefly engage in yoga meditation. The instructor will often guide this. She will advise the student to let go of the day's stress to get in touch with the present moment.

One of the most important aspects of yoga meditation involves paying attention to breathing. Paying attention to the breath frees the mind from other distractions. It also encourages a connection between mind and body. This is one of the primary goals for many yoga practices.

Yoga meditation continues during the yoga class even though it is put into the background. The instructor often encourages students to pay attention to the breath during exercises. At the end of the class a more focused meditation occurs during relaxation.
